Rosemond Alade Brown, popularly known as Akuapem Poloo, a social media personality, will spend another night in the Nsawam prison despite being granted bail by the Criminal Division of the High Court, pending the final determination of an appeal filed by her lawyers against her 90-day jail sentence.
According to Media sources, this is because her lawyers did not complete the necessary procedures to secure her release on Thursday, April 22, 2021.
Although the lawyers were present at the prison to complete the process, they were unable to do so before 2 p.m., when all administrative activities at the prisons are suspended.
Her attorneys, on the other hand, believe they will be able to get her out by 10 a.m. on Friday, April 23, 2021.
On Wednesday, April 21, 2021, she was granted bail in the amount of GHS80,000 with two sureties.
The bail conditions require her to report to the case investigator every two weeks and to leave her passport with the court registrar.
Akuapem Poloo was sentenced to 90 days in prison for publishing obscene material and violating her 7-year-old son’s dignity and integrity in a nude photo she posted on social media.
Since the ruling, some people, particularly celebrities, have condemned the punishment meted out to her. They also signed a petition to have her released.
Andrew Vortia, her lawyer, had filed a mitigation plea to request a less severe sentence.

Mr. Vortia insisted that the prison sentence imposed on his client was harsh. “The mitigating factors in her favor outnumber the aggravating factors.” This is not a rape offense, in my opinion. It is not homicide. “It’s a misdemeanor that could have been treated lightly,” he said.
