Aisha Huang, the Galamsey Kingpin denied bail again

Aishà Huang, the kingpin of Galamsey, has been denied bail yet again by an Accra Circuit Court.

The Chinese national pleaded not guilty to the allegations of illegal mining but remains in police custody.

Meanwhile, Judge Samuel Bright Acquah urged the Judiciary to take a strong stance against illegal mining in order to save Ghana’s water bodies.

In his decision on a bail application on Tuesday, he stated that the accused will remain in police custody while investigations continue.

Ms. Huang and three other people are accused of illegal mining and selling minerals without a license.

On September 16, 2022, new charges will be filed against her:

Count One: Engaging in a mining operation without a permit, in violation of section 99(2)(a) of the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006, Act 703, as amended by the Minerals and Mining (Amendment) Act 2019, Act 995.

 

Count Two: Facilitating the participation of individuals engaged in mining operations in violation of sections 99 (2)(a) and (3) of the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006, Act 703, as amended by the Minerals and Mining (Amendment) Act 2019, Act 995.

Count Three: Illegal employment of foreign nationals in violation of Immigration Act of 2000 Section 24. (Act 573).

Count Four: Entering Ghana while prohibited from re-entry contrary to section 20(4) of the Immigration Act, 2000, Act 573.
