The lawyer for Chinese national Aisha Huang, dubbed the “galamsey queen,” has revealed that his client is married to a Ghanaian businessman.
“I’m aware she’s married to a Ghanaian. I know this because of her Ghanaian husband, a Kumasi businessman with a master’s degree from a Chinese university. He came to my office looking for a lawyer “Nkrabeah Effah Dartey stated on Citi FM in Accra.
On September 5, 2022, Aisha Huang was arrested again for the same offences.
Aisha, along with three other Chinese nationals, was charged with engaging in the sale and purchase of minerals without a license and mining without a license.
The court was unable to record the pleas of the four suspects because there was no interpreter to assist the Chinese nationals in translating proceedings.
On Wednesday, September 14, 2022, the Accra Circuit Court denied Aisha Huang’s bail application, and she will remain in police custody.
She is expected to appear in court within the next two weeks after prosecutors obtained an extension of a warrant of arrest allowing them to detain her.

The extension will give the police more time to conduct their investigations.
Lawyers for Aisha Huang, who is accused of mining without a license, made a strong case for her release on bail.
They expressed their concerns about what they consider to be unfair treatment of their client by state security, and they questioned why their client was repatriated in 2018 for what they consider to be a minor offence.
Effah Dartey has also accused the media of “overhyping” the case of Aisha Huang.
He stated that the case in court is a “minor issue” that the media has focused on.
“My concern is that the media has overhyped the minor issue of mining without a license and selling minerals without a license. It’s a minor issue that occurs on a daily basis in Ghana. So I don’t see why the media should write an editorial about it. And it is this that is causing the problem and adding uncertainty to the situation “He stated.
