The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has revealed that popular Chinese galamsey businesswoman Aisha Huang could face a two-year prison sentence for illegal re-entry into Ghana.
On Tuesday, September 6, the Service’s Public Relations Officer, Michael Amoako-Atta, told Media General Joseph Armstrong that if she is found to have violated immigration regulations, she will be detained for that long.
“If she is convicted under immigration rules, she could be imprisoned for about two years,” DSI Amoako-Atta said.
“That’s what the law says.”
Following her deportation to her home country of China in 2018, Aisha Huang is said to have obtained a visa from neighbouring Togo and re-entered Ghana under a different name.
“Right now, we’re building the case because her mode of entry is something that we all want to clarify,” he explained.
“Then we’ll look into what she got herself into, and then we’ll be able to build a proper case against her.”

DSI Amoako-Atta pointed out that she was stopped at the border by officers from the Ghana Immigration Service.
He then stated that she was turned over to National Security.
He denied allegations that the Service failed to conduct due diligence, allowing her illegal re-entry into the country to continue her galamsey activities.
“We have a variety of operational strategies in place, so we don’t have to rely solely on our officers at the point of entry.”
“Looking at the landscape and at the nature of our job, you can’t say you are at the borders and that is all. “
“Because of this, I’ve listed every other strategy we used, including community outreach to border residents and internal information gathering, both of which contributed to her arrest.”
“Therefore, immigration is not doing a poor job.”
