Over 400 public officials have been investigated by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) for failing to declare their assets.
According to CHRAJ, 284 of the cases under investigation were brought to its attention in August of this year.
The Constitution requires anyone holding public office to submit a declaration of assets to the Auditor General within three months of taking office.
Stephen Azantilow, Director of Anti-Corruption at CHRAJ, lamented the failure of public officials to comply with the requirement during a forum in Accra.

“Some public officials have made the decision never to declare their assets.”
“We at CHRAJ also feel helpless because having a law that does not compel these people to declare their assets makes it difficult,” he added.
