3 suspects arrested over mobile money robbery in Kasoa
Three suspects have been arrested as a result of police intelligence operations for their involvement in a mobile money robbery at Kasoa on December 20, 2022.

According to police investigations, the suspects attacked and shot a mobile money merchant at his business centre while armed with a pump-action gun concealed in a baby diaper sack.

“As the victim attempted to flee for his life, the suspects pursued him, shot him from behind, and robbed him of an unspecified amount of money,” police said in a statement.

Following a thorough investigation and intelligence, police retrieved a pump-action rifle and arrested suspects Michael Otu, alias Rider, Godfred Okine, and Asaa Faisal, alias Commander, who has been described by the other suspects as the brain behind the robbery and provided the gang with weapons.

According to police, suspect Godfred Okine later complained of illness and was rushed to the hospital, but died while receiving treatment.

His body has been placed in the mortuary of the police hospital for preservation and autopsy.

The Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) conducted an initial investigation into his death and determined that the officers treated the deceased suspect professionally from the time he was arrested until his death.

The PPSB has made contact with the family of the deceased suspect as part of its investigation.

Meanwhile, the injured victim is receiving medical attention and is in good health.

On December 29, 2022, the suspects, Michael Otu and Asaa Faisal, appeared in the Ofaakor District Court and were remanded into police custody to appear in court on January 12, 2023.
