A Cape Coast Circuit Court sentenced a 20-year-old unemployed man to ten years in prison with hard labor for robbing a student of GH50.00, four pieces of soap, and a toilet roll.
Cosmos De-Heer, the now-convicted offender who committed the crime while armed with a knife and wearing a face mask, pleaded guilty to the robbery charge brought against him.
Mrs. Veronique Praba Tetteh, the presiding judge, proceeded to sentence the young man on his own plea.
Facts of the case as reported by the Ghana News Agency (GNA):
Chief Inspector John Asare Bediako, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant is a student at Nyankomasi Ahenkro Senior High School, while De-Heer is an unemployed town resident.
He stated that on November 27, last year, around 02:00 a.m., the complainant, who was sleeping in her room, felt someone attempting to remove her underwear.
According to the prosecution, the complainant was startled and when she awoke, she saw the convict who was masked and holding a torchlight, so she quickly raised an alarm for help, but the convict pulled a knife and ordered her to remain silent.
Mr. Asare Bediako stated that the complainant later recognized the convict, but he got away with GH50.00, four pieces of soap, and a toilet roll.
Unfortunately for the convict, his knife fell to the ground while rushing out of the neighborhood, and the complainant took it to the police station the next morning to file an official complaint.
Following an investigation, the convict was arrested and charged.
