They have been charged with rioting, rioting and rioting, and prohibiting land guard actions, among other things.

The defendants have pleaded not guilty.

The accused have been granted bail in the sum of GHS50,000 with three sureties, one of which must be justified, by the court presided over by Mrs Patricia Amponsah.

The hearing has been rescheduled until November 1.

Maxwell Oppong said, in September 2022, there was a power struggle between members and officials of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Shukura Branch. The conflict was over “who controls the ticketing and money” at the station.

According to the report, the dispute devolved into a lengthy battle between members and the executive, forcing the police to interfere in many instances.

“The Regional Executives of the GPRTU have also requested with the Police to have the situation addressed peacefully,” the prosecution stated.

The Accra Regional Police Command received a distress call around 5:30 a.m. on October 7 saying that several persons armed with pistols and cutlasses were attacking people at Shukura Lorry Station.

According to the prosecution, the Police arrived on the scene and pursued six of the defendants.

Gyan, Bashiru, and Ayariga were caught holding cutlasses, according to the report, but the rest fled.

Awudu, Seidu, and Sulemana fled but later returned to the murder site to carry out their plans.

Reports also said, the police team returned to the location and detained Awudu, Seidu, and Sulemana with four cutlasses and a knife.
